FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 26, 2004

LUBBOCK – A record crowd of nearly 650 people attended the third annual First Pitch Luncheon, sponsored by the Tech Hecklers and United Supermarkets.

Through table and ticket sales, a raffle and the silent auction, the Hecklers raised more than $13,400 for the Texas Tech baseball and softball programs.

“With all the major bills received, we feel very confident in that figure,” said Susan Snead, Heckler accountant.

The two previous luncheons raised a combined total of nearly $20,000 for the programs.

The money raised will be used to purchase a pitching machine for the baseball program and to buy uniforms for the softball team.

“We are very excited to be able to raise this much for these programs,” said Chris Snead, Heckler founder. “It says a lot about the support these programs receive from the community that we were able to raise this much.”

SPEAKERS ANNOUNCED FOR FIRST PITCH LUNCHEON

LUBBOCK – The speakers have been announced for the third annual First Pitch Luncheon sponsored by the Tech Hecklers and United Supermarkets.

Highlighting the list of speakers from the Texas Rangers Winter Caravan is Hank Blalock, whose two-run home run gave the American League a win in the 2003 All-Star Game. Also visiting the Hub City will be pitcher Colby Lewis, broadcaster Eric Nadel and other representatives of the Rangers and the City of Arlington. In addition to the Rangers representatives, Tech baseball coach Larry Hays and softball coach Bobby Reeves will discuss their teams' upcoming seasons.

The luncheon will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 23 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, 1501 Sixth St. Tables of eight are currently available for $200 by calling Judy Walker at 742-2771, ext. 267. Any remaining individual tickets will go on sale Jan. 19 for $15.

Proceeds from this year’s luncheon will once again benefit the Tech baseball and softball programs. In previous years the luncheon has raised over $20,000 for the programs to buy uniforms, warm-up suits, line-up boards and a new sound system for Dan Law Field.
